OPENING NIGHT to BENEFIT
The GUILD OF SERVICE
Friday, October 20, 2006
AMC Empire 25
234 West 42nd St.
Inspired by true events WHITE RAINBOW is a story of
four remarkable women and their struggle to overcome the
stigma, oppression and brutal reality of being widows in
present day India. They emerge empowered by the belief that
they are not fated by superstition, but by their own
convictions.
Q&A Session following the evening screenings with:
Dr. Mohini Giri, Chairperson, GUILD of SERVICE
Linda Mandrayar, Producer, White Rainbow
The Guild of Service has provided grass roots advocacy to empower
widows throughout India and focus attention on their
plight. Under the chairmanship of Dr. Mohini Giri, the Guild
runs four homes, each committed to serve the special needs of
women made destitute by varying circumstances. Whether
widowed as a child, as a result of riots or armed conflict, they
provide shelter, health care and customized training for
hundreds of marginalized women. The important work of the
Guild of Service cannot be overstated.
